In 1992, Chart became a publicly traded company and fell under the new leadership of Jim Sadowski at the end of 1993. Sadowski directed the company back into the areas that had been most successful for it's predecessors. The turnaround in management increased sales and led to the acquisition of CVI Incorporated, a manufacturing company contracted by NASA specializing in the creation of cryogenic vacuum pumps. Chart expanded it's products through a number of other acquisitions during the mid - to late 1990’s, including a broader focus on growth abroad reflecting a growth in international shipments.
Moving into the 1990’s, Chart began to focus its growth abroad and added on the Chart Coastal Fabrication plant in Louisiana, which allowed the company to produce four times the cryogenic cold boxes as before, thus allowing for international shipment.
In 1999, Chart acquired it's first venture into the market of respiratory products. Through the acquisition of Minnesota Valley Engineering (MVE), an international leader in cryogenic containment, Chart also acquired CAIRE, a small branch of the group specializing in liquid oxygen equipment. The respiratory product line continues to operate under the CAIRE Inc. name, which has since evolved into a leading liquid oxygen respiratory care solutions provider for the home healthcare market. This product line is comprised of a range of medical respiratory products, including stationary and ambulatory liquid oxygen systems. Both are used for the in-home supplemental oxygen treatment of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) such as bronchitis, emphysema, and asthma.
At the end of 2009 CAIRE acquired the Covidien line of oxygen therapy products, including products sold under the leading Companion® and HELiOS® brands. This addition of the H300 Plus, H850 Marathon, Companion 1000, and Companion 1000T plus their corresponding reservoirs, enhanced the ability of CAIRE to meet every patient’s liquid oxygen LOX needs.
In 2011 CAIRE acquired yet another company, SeQual Technologies, which produces the most innovative portable oxygen concentrator on the market, the Eclipse. The addition of the SeQual Eclipse and SeQual Integra market-leading portable and stationary oxygen concentrators to CAIRE’s LOX solutions has broadened and complemented the portfolio. The SeQual Eclipse POC meets the ambulatory and round-the-clock oxygen needs of Long-Term Oxygen Therapy (LTOT) patients with technology that makes them smaller, quieter, and more reliable. By combining CAIRE’s industry-leading LOX products with SeQual’s award-winning POC, CAIRE-SeQual has become the one-stop-shop for clinically focused LTOT products.
Today, Chart Industries has become leading provider worldwide for cryogenic and other highly engineered products. Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, the organization serves the global industrial gas and hydrocarbon processing markets and numerous end user applications.
CAIRE ® has also evolved and has become a leading respiratory care products provider for the home health care market. Manufacturing a full line of Liquid Oxygen Reservoirs and Liquid Oxygen Portables, CAIRE-SeQual combines product expertise and consulting to bring a unique approach to the home respiratory and long-term care market.
